CoinPoker interviewed both CoinMasters front-runners, and we’re proud to share their answers with you.

Starting the Poker Journey

Q: When did you start playing poker, and how did you get here? 
Tell us about your journey.

GamblersFallacy:
“When I was 16, I started playing poker with family at Holiday events for fun. I fell in love with it and started going to live tournaments when I turned 18. 

I’m in my 30’s now, so I’ve been playing for a long time with some breaks when life gets in the way. For the last four years, I’ve really taken the game seriously. I try to play and study every day as well.”

Symmetry:
“I started playing poker at college many years ago, around 2006/2007. We used to play in our free time with friends between classes, and I instantly fell in love. 

I have always been very passionate about the things I like the most and have always been a good student, so I always try to go one step further and be ahead of the curve. I liked the game so much that I started investigating the strategy, reading articles, watching videos, studying with free courses, and basically consuming every training material that was out there.

I then started playing online, mostly cash games and SNGs on PokerStars and Full Tilt, and became a winning player.

College started getting tougher, and around 2010, I started playing less and less until I stopped to focus on my studies. This paid off as I successfully finished my Engineering studies in 2012.

I then started working full-time in 2013, and I could not find much time to play. I didn’t play much, apart from some home games with college friends and occasional online SNGs. Years went by like that, and by 2016, Full Tilt had disappeared, and PokerStars closed operations in my country, so I didn’t have many options.

I moved abroad in 2017 to study a Master’s Degree in Europe, and I found plenty of online poker options. Around 2018-2019, I was purely playing MTTs. Poker had evolved, and I was super rusty, so I found that I wasn’t a winning player anymore. I decided to start studying again to be competitive. 

By 2020-2021, I had successfully finished my Master’s and found more time to regularly study. I improved a lot, but I still wasn’t where I wanted to be. I joined a study group and attended seminars (Thanks, Mammoth!), and I became a way better player, winning again at micro and low stakes MTTs.

Since then, I’ve been constantly studying and continuing to be a winning player. In 2023, I won a WCOOP title, and in 2024 took second place in a SCOOP. During those 2 years, my game grew a lot, and I won many MTTs online.

I moved back to my country in 2024, and there were way more options to play online. Of course, CoinPoker was one of those options 🙂.

Since 2024, I have taken poker even more seriously and competed well at mid-stakes. I have never stopped studying over the last two years. I joined BBZ Poker, and that really took my game to the next level. I also have private coaching and a personal study routine.”

The Most Difficult CoinMasters Events to Win

Q: Which of your Coin victories was the most difficult? 

GamblersFallacy:
“I would say my 1st, 3rd, and 4th coins were all very difficult, not because of player fields, but due to the mental toll they took. I think in my second tournament I entered, I reached heads up and lost in a $25 event, then placed 3rd a few days later in a $100 event. 

At first, I thought to myself about how easy this competition would be to complete. I believe it was about 2 months of grinding every day before I ended up getting my first FLOKI Coin in a $25 CoinMasters event, with massive swings until then. 

On that day, I literally told myself I would have to give up on the CoinMasters if I did not make a final table. Luckily for me, I ended up winning it. That definitely boosted my morale towards continuing the series. This pattern repeated for my 3rd and 4th Coins, where it seemed like it was nearly impossible to progress. But right when I was at my lowest point, my luck came back, and I ended up securing the wins.”

Symmetry:
“It is hard to say, as each one has been difficult and has had something special. I would say the first one, the $100 PEPE Coin. That one had a larger and tougher field, and I made the final table somewhere around the middle of the pack. I think in the very first hand, I lost AK to TT and was very disappointed, as I was left with about 10BB. I was the short stack through the entire final table, but managed to keep laddering.

I started gaining momentum once four players were left by jamming and stealing blinds, 3-bet jamming against the chip leader, and even by doing a click-back 4-bet bluff with A4o with 15BB (which was pretty crazy).

The hand that changed it all was when the chip leader on the button open-jammed for like 20BB effective. There was lots of ICM pressure, as the other stacks had like 5BB and 10BB. I had 99 and called. He showed 33, and I held. I took the chip lead and didn’t look back.

On that final table, I was playing on my phone in my car, which for sure increases the difficulty!

I have won 3 of my Coins playing from start to finish on my phone, which I think is pretty crazy.”

How CoinMasters MTTs Differ + Finding Edges 

Q: How do CoinMasters tournaments feel different from normal MTTs? 
Which events do you have the biggest edge in?

GamblersFallacy:
“When I made my second final table in the $100 event, I was playing very ICM poker, trying to secure ladder ups. I ended up with a very short stack 3-handed. After that, I told myself I wasn’t going to get many Coins if I took this route in the future. So going forward, I decided to play for the wins. 

I think that really helped me out at dominating final tables where people are taking ICM into consideration. When you start jumping into the $100s and having thousands of dollars up top, people are naturally going to tighten up. I think this gives me more opportunities to get extra bluffs through to try and secure more wins.”

Symmetry:
“They for sure feel different. There is this extra thing in CoinMasters events about the glory. To me, poker is way more than winning money. I truly love the game, and I am very passionate about it. The feeling of deep runs in a tournament, the excitement of making final tables, and the pride and joy of winning mean absolutely everything.

I have never dreamed about money, so the glory of winning special events, getting a trophy, and making history means way more than the cash prize. I feel very proud when I see myself at the top of the CoinMasters Leaderboard or when I am mentioned in the CoinPoker Newsletter. That is absolutely priceless. It’s something CoinMasters has that no other series or promotions can offer.

Regarding the tournaments themselves, the structure is amazing. As Patrick Leonard said once, “Our structures are fast but slow.” It is good that you don’t find yourself at the final two tables with a 12BB average stack, where luck triumphs over skill. Throughout the tournaments, I feel that you can really play good poker, which to me is extremely valuable.

Regarding my edge in CoinMasters, it may feel counterintuitive, but I have had more success with the higher buy-ins. Somehow, I feel more comfortable and confident playing those. I feel that there is way more variance in the low buy-in events, and sometimes you find players going a bit too crazy.

The $88 CoinMasters Asia events are the ones I feel I have the best chances to win. Recently, I finished 4th in the $88 FLOKI event. I also finished second in that one a couple of months ago.”

Adjustments After Collecting 5 Coins

Q: Are you playing differently now, since you’ve collected some Coins, or is it business as usual?

GamblersFallacy:
“I think it’s business as usual. I am exploring more exploitative routes with Bencb’s paid course over the last few months and really enjoying it. Hopefully, it can give me the edge I need in the BITCOIN event’s larger fields and tougher players.”

Symmetry:
“Technically, no, I am not playing any differently. I try to always play as optimally as possible and to my best. I do not deviate from my usual game, apart from adjusting versus some specific opponents that I have tagged as way too out of line.

However, now when I enter FLOKI and BITCOIN events, I fire max bullets, no matter what.”

Q: The real gold and silver Coins are a unique part of CoinMasters.
What do you think about the Coins? 

GamblersFallacy:
“I am absolutely in love with my Coins. Each one is absolutely gorgeous and unique. Even the differences in the English/Asia variants make me want to collect all 14 (yeah, right).”

Symmetry:
“They’re amazing, and I truly appreciate this from the bottom of my heart. Almost no sites are doing this. In online poker, you can win many different MTTs, but those victories feel ephemeral sometimes.

Having a physical item that reminds you of your glorious victory feels super special to me. It makes you feel proud and happy every time you see them on the shelf. It brings good memories and stories you can share with your loved ones, making them feel happy and proud. Perhaps it can change the way they think about poker.”

Reasons for Competing in CoinMasters

Q: Were you always going after the $100,000 poker career, or did you start pursuing it after you won your first Coins?

GamblersFallacy:
“Yeah, I think that I came two months late to CoinMasters. But the second I saw this promotion, I knew it was exactly what I wanted to chase. I didn’t waste any time and jumped right into a tournament.”

Symmetry:
“No, I was not. Back when I won my first Coin, I was not really playing the CoinMasters events as I was on a downswing and had a low balance on my CoinPoker account. But that day, I saw the tournament, and despite it being a little bit outside of my conservative bankroll management approach, I decided to play it. It was like a divine decision!

About 3 weeks after that, I won 2 CoinMasters Asia events in a span of 1 week. I said, “Ok, I definitely have a chance here!” From then on, I started going harder on the CoinMasters events.”

GamblersFallacy:
“I think the cash is most important to boost my bankroll. My main goal a year ago was to grind to an amount where I could start traveling to some live tournament events. I think that would put me right in a spot where I could start doing that comfortably.”

Symmetry:
“It’s hard to say. My dream has always been to play the Main Event, and I know I will soon, so in my mind, that is in reach. Therefore, I would go for either the CoinPoker sponsorship and all the glory that comes with it, or the $50,000 cash, which would allow me to go to Vegas and play, plus move to higher stakes online.”

Advice for All CoinMasters Competitors

Q: Give one piece of useful advice to players who are behind you on the CoinMasters Leaderboard. 

GamblersFallacy:
“To win one specific tournament takes a lot of luck, no matter how much skill you have in the game. I think the Coinmasters promotion proves this more than anything. Even being tied at first with Symmetry, I realistically think it could be 4 months or more before anyone collects all the coins. 

You never know when variance will be on your side, so even if you have 0 coins collected right now, you could go on a heater of a lifetime and spike them all in a month.”

Symmetry:
“If possible, always play the $88 and $22 Asian events, as the fields are smaller. Also, the competitors are tougher on the regular $25 and $100 events, as it is peak time so all the regs are in there.

I would say that if your bankroll allows, late regging the low-tiered events and even the higher ones is super +EV. The CoinMasters structures are really good, and with one double-up, you are already close to the money. With 30BB+, you have great chances of making a deep run. Plus, if you have an edge over the average player, you are very likely to go deep.

Of course, always keep studying. Studying ICM ranges for F2T and FT really makes a difference.”
