Welcome to my personal blog for CoinPoker! After a special series of blogs about aggressiveness in poker that we just completed, I noticed that I received questions from amateurs’ players that just discover the wonderful world of Texas Hold’em No Limit Poker. As such, we are taking a momentary break from the blogs about best openings in Open Face Chinese Poker in order to go back to the roots of No Limit Hold’em play. Shuffle up and deal!

As we saw last week in the 1st blog post about learning all about poker , the best ways to play poker and the optimal strategies keep evolving, year after year, decade after decade.

As such, if you want to be a good poker player, you have to keep learning and to adapt as well, or you will never be able to adjust your game and be profitable. A technical move that was true some years ago may be totally wrong and EV- today.

You need to stay on top and up to date, and we covered in the last blog post some of the traditional ways to do so: Books, eBooks and Masterclasses.

WHAT ARE THE OTHER WAYS TO LEARN AND STAY UPDATED?

Free content on YouTube and Twitch

If you don’t have much money to spend in formation, you can be glad to live in 2020, because there is a lot of free stuff on YouTube and Twitch.

Many players live stream their poker sessions so you can literally see every hand they play. The best of them stream while sharing their thinking process, commenting on every move they make. Why they decided to raise this hand, in that precise position.

Some others are into challenges: for instance, they will start with a 100$ bankroll and try to turn it into 1,000$. These kinds of challenges (hours of free videos) are a perfect way to learn!

They don’t do things randomly, so that is a very good way to learn stuff. Make sure to follow generous and good players otherwise you won’t learn much!

Getting a personal poker coach

Being coached can be an excellent way to improve your poker skills. There are different kinds of coaching. The best thing to do, if you can afford it, is to have a personal coach that will analyse your skills, identify your flaws and make you work on them.

It’s like going to the doctor and asking for a check-up. What is my poker health? Am I playing correctly my small pairs? Do I 3-bet in the right spots? Do my bluffs make sense?

Usually, a good personal coach will work with you on many levels. The technical analysis will be a main focus of course, but important concepts such as confidence, mindset, sport, sleep, nutrition can also be discussed.

Lots of personal coaches will review a tournament played by their student. That’s a good way to learn. The coach will be able to tell you precisely what you did wrong and what would have been another option. It’s also possible to share a coach. It reduces the overall price, but you get less of his time.

Online coaching platforms

Becoming more and more popular are the online coaching platforms. Usually, you subscribe to the platform on a monthly basis and then, according to the level of the plan you chose (basic, premium etc.), you will have access to different kinds of contents (tournament reviews, technical explanations, etc). It’s usually video content.

The advantage of these kinds of platforms is that you can work and learn at your own rhythm, you can spend hours throughout the whole content, or on the contrary pick up precisely what you’re looking for. The disadvantage resides in the lack of interaction.

Poker forums

You can also visit poker forums to learn poker stuff. Users debate about their hands; they ask for opinions about if they played good or not. That’s a good source to get information and it’s free!

There are a lot of ways to learn, improve and stay up with trending strategies. We’ll continue on that subject over the next blog post!
